Tour & activities (1.5 hours)
Student learning will be reinforced with group discussions, writing and/or drawing activities focusing on conceptual issues of identity and introduced cultural influence in Aotearoa New Zealand. The three thematic clusters within the exhibition (contemporary abstraction, a re-configuration of the everyday, and augmented reality and altered states) will also be explored.
Tour & workshop (2 hours)
*Junior Option (Years 1-4)
*Senior Option (Years 5-8)
These workshops encourage the students to creatively respond to the works they have learnt about in 'Telecom Prospect 2007'. Focusing on the work of Gina Matchitt, Gregor Kregar and Jacquelyn Greenbank, students will be introduced to customary Toi Māori use of fibres, the legend of Tānenuiarangi—the Three Baskets of Knowledge—and will explore issues of colonisation, globalisation and identity. Working with natural and man-made fibres they will create a ‘kete of knowledge’ of their own, using symbolism and a variety of materials.
